UWC Day in Toronto
Saturday, September 21, 2024, 1330 - 1600
Join the UWC National Committee of Canada Board of Directors, staff, and local volunteers in a meet and greet and exclusive screening of the documentary film Uncharitable, which will be followed by a critical and timely discussion focused on the United World College international education movement and it's impacts it has had over the past 50 years to today in Canada, and what we hope for the next 50 years! If you want to engage in the discussion, the more the merrier, get your voice in there! After the event, we will all move down to a local pub/restaurant nearby for drinks and appys. We hope you'll join us to learn about the not for profit sector in Canada and the US, and have your voice included by sharing what you want to see happen in Canada next.
We would love to encourage you to bring two people who are new to the UWC movement, to help us grow our community and bring more awareness to this life changing educational opportunity. If you do, we will waive your ticket fee - email us at fundraising@ca.uwc.org to learn more.
All proceeds from this event will go directly to supporting the UWC NCC Emergency fund, something we are developing to help students who financially can't afford their flights, or have family circumstances like a sudden illness, loss of job, etc. that changes their financial need during their two year UWC journey. Our goal is to maintain a fund of $5,000 annually to support this, if and when needed. Offers to Canada rarely include support for flights, or have room for major changes in financial need mid-way through their journeys, which is why this is so important.
This event is being run/hosted at very little cost to the NCC, as Pearson College UWC purchased the rights to show the film, and are supporting the NC free of cost to show the film in Toronto. A very kind donor is covering the cost of the venue, and so all proceeds will go directly to this "emergency" fund. We thank you in advance for your support, and can't wait to meet you in person!
