UScellular Announces Winners of its 2nd annual Hispanic Heritage Art Contest with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Southwest Virginia at Eastern Montgomery Elementary School in Elliston.
Boys and Girls Club members were encouraged to create original pieces of artwork in recognition of influential Hispanic STEM icons, including historical figures, world leaders, scientists and educators. This year, Boys and Girls Clubs across UScellular’s service areas participated in the art contest.
In September the public was able to participate in online voting to determine the winners. The first-place winner was also one of three national winners who got the most votes overall. Due to this, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Southwest Virginia received an additional $1,000 and the first-place winner received an additional $250.
The top vote-getters were given gift cards for the following amounts:
- 1st Place, Bradley won $250 for the local contest and an additional $250 as one of three winners that received the most votes overall for a portrait of Roberto Clemente.
- 2nd Place, Mavis won $150 for a portrait of Danny Trejo.
- 3rd Place, Rickie won $100 for a portrait of Frida Kahlo.
"Having the opportunity to provide the Boys and Girls Clubs of Southwest Virginia members with a chance to showcase their talents in the Hispanic Heritage Month Art Contest has been a fantastic experience," said April Taylor, area sales manager at UScellular. "We are so proud to celebrate all of our participants for the amazing work that they have done this year."
