Saturday, June 29, 2024 -- Sunday, June 30, 2024, 1000 - 1600
Venerable Tulku Damcho Rinpoche was born on June 28, 1973, in Nubri, Nepal. His early education in Tibetan reading and writing began at the age of eight. At thirteen, he moved to Kathmandu with his grandmother, received Kalachakra empowerment from the 14th Dalai Lama in 1986, and visited Thrangu Monastery in 1987, where he was ordained as a monk by the Very Venerable Ninth Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche. Tulku Damcho's monastic education continued with his reception of the Barma Rabjung vow in 1987, followed by novice vows in 1989. He progressed rapidly, becoming the ritual and chanting master by 1991 and studying under various scholars and lamas. In 1997, he traveled to Oxford to learn English, returning to continue his ritual studies. His responsibilities grew as he was appointed personal attendant to Thrangu Rinpoche in 1990 and accompanied him on numerous travels and teachings, including receiving full ordination as a bhikshu in 1992. His recognition as the reincarnation of Lama Tsoknyi in 1994 by His Eminence Tai Situ Rinpoche further solidified his standing within the monastic community.

In 1999, he joined the Vajra Vidya Institute for Higher Buddhist Studies, where he delved into the great treatises, philosophy, and logic under esteemed teachers. His commitment to monastic practice led him to a preliminary retreat at Namo Buddha in 2003, guided by Lama Wangdue. With the blessings of Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche, he entered a traditional three-year retreat at Thrangu Sekhar Retreat Center near Bhaktapur, Nepal, in 2004. Under Drupon Rinpoche Khenpo Lhabu's guidance, he received comprehensive instructions on the practices of the paths of means and liberation, completing the retreat in 2008. Following this intensive period, Tulku Damcho played a pivotal role in constructing the Nubri Hinang Thrangu Tashi Chokhorling monastery, completed in 2009. He actively supports various monasteries and the sangha, organizing annual Mani Drubchens and providing teachings and empowerments to the local villagers. His generosity extends to financial support for the building and maintenance of monastic facilities, including a nine-story Milarepa tower at Thrangu Sekhar Retreat Center. He also sponsors food for young monks from Nubri Hinang and Nar Thrangu Monasteries during their winters at Thrangu Monastery in Lumbini.

Tulku Damcho's influence reaches globally. Rinpoche leads pujas and teachings at various monasteries, such as the Gurung Society Monastery in Pokhara and in Tatopani, Sindhupalchowk District. Since 2009, he has traveled extensively, teaching in Europe, the Americas, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Malaysia, fostering devoted students worldwide.
