Tina Carr and her Band - EFG London Jazz Festival - Friday 15 November 2024 - Hoxton Hall
Friday, November 15, 2024, 2000 - 2200
The band is led by Tina’s longtime collaborator, award-winning pianist / composer / producer Matt Robinson and features trumpeter, composer Miguel Gorodi ; bassist, electronic musician Max Luthert,; dynamic trombonist Kieran McLeod ; saxophonist, composer, bandleader Sam Newbould; drummer , composer Rod Oughton and multi-genre violinist , Afro-Classical composer/songwriter Àánú Sodipe.
Tina is a relative newcomer to the scene, but not to the music – jazz was her first language. A few years ago, she walked away from a professional life working with freelance journalists and threw herself into music-making. With a love of great women singers, from Carmen Macrae, to Annie Ross, Sheila Jordan, Jessye Norman, Tina has her own take.
Tina has sung in London at Green Note, Karamel N22, Toulouse Lautrec, Vortex, Piano Smithfield, Max Klub - Slovenia and Jazz Café Alto - Amsterdam. She has performed her show “A Little Bit of Monk and Others” with her band, and played duo gigs with Matt Robinson, and guitarist Billy Marrows.
During last year's EFG London Jazz Festival, she launched her debut album ‘Songs for Curly’ in a sell-out gig at the Actors Church in Covent Garden. BBC Radio London presenter and vocalist Jumoke Fashola hailed it as “a stunning debut - Tina has leapt into the world of music with both feet”
