The Music of Bond

The full blown sound of a leading symphony orchestra performing the iconic music of Bond in Durham Cathedral will be the perfect escape into the world of the silver screen’s most famous spy.
The Music of Bond - presented by the Limelight Orchestra - brings some of the most well known cinematic music to the cathedral for the first time for a special one off show on Saturday 22 June.
The packed 90 minute programme features guest vocalists taking on some of the most famous songs of the spy genre from legends Shirley Bassey, Madonna, Adele, Sam Smith, Tina Turner and Paul McCartney to name but some.
Goldfinger, From Russia with Love and Skyfall will be given the full orchestral treatment in the first half of the show, followed by Nobody Does It Better and Diamonds are Forever in the second half, with many more high energy anthems from the Bond oeuvre.
Impressive illuminations designed to showcase each number will add to the enjoyment of hearing familiar songs played live by the full string, brass, woodwind, percussion and electronic sections of the orchestra in this beautiful historical venue.
The orchestra draws on freelance musicians from across the country and Durham is well represented. The audience may recognise home grown talent during the performance.
Limelight Musical Director Paul Murphy said: "The orchestra is made up of some of the best musicians handpicked from around the country, some of whom originate from the north east and have played at the Cathedral before. While this will be my first visit to Durham with the orchestra, many of the musicians have described how amazing it is to perform in the Cathedral, so we’re really looking forward to this show.”
Principal Violin Anna Downes said, "We are so excited about performing amazing orchestrations of music from John Barry to Hans Zimmer and our vocal tributes to artists from Shirley Bassey Adele."
