The Bay Street Music Project
Saturday, October 19, 2024, 1200 - 1600
Band and ensemble performances will occur throughout the afternoon, featuring both military and civilian bands. This is an opportunity for the audience to listen to and meet members of the Naden Band of the Royal Canadian Navy, 5th Field Regiment Band, the Canadian Scottish Regiment Pipes and Drums, Chiefs and POs Band, Castle Cary Celtic Band, Cowichan Pipes and Drums and more.
The Victoria Military Music Festival Society is hosting this celebration of our musical heritage conceived in the style of a trade fair. This opens the door for young people with musical interests to enter a world of musical possibilities they may not know exists.
The Victoria Conservatory of Music, College of Organists, Music For Veterans Project, Capital City Pipe Band are only a few of the organizations with tables, along with music vendors.
The Bay Street Armoury is home to the 5th Field Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery, and the Canadian Scottish Regiment (Princess Mary's). Both museums will be open to the public. There will be historical instruments on display. For example the bagpipes of Piper James Richardson, who was awarded the Victoria Cross for his brave actions in the First World War.
