TOAST IN THE TREE at The MIdnight Apothecary WASSAIL, Brunel Museum
Saturday, January 13, 2024, 1800 - 2200
Get your woolly jumpers out and celebrate Wassail at London's only campfire cocktail bar at the Brunel Museum. Perfect date night or evening with mates. Saturday 13 January 2024, 6pm - 10pm. Booking essential. £8
Gather round the fire and get the heart pumping for Wassailing, the traditional old Twelfth Night celebration. It's a chance to warm your cockles, aided by some cider-based concoctions, beers and wines. Soft drinks always on hand.
This ancient ceremony blesses the fruit trees in anticipation of the bountiful new season. For our 12th year celebrating Wassail, we will process to the apple tree in the lower garden with Wassail and sing some Wassail carols led by the Butler of the Ceremony and starring the Wassail Queen, alongside some amazing Greenwich-based folk musicians GreenTrad and the Walthamstow Wassailing singers to bring some real Wassail merriment to the scene! There will be a QR code to pull up the songsheet on your phone, so bring your heartiest bellow to join in the hailing! The garden will be decked with giant flares and house one of the bars serving our Hot Deluxe Wassail Toddies/beers/wines, with the other bar at the entrance to the Tunnel Shaft at the top of the Grand Staircase where our musicians will continue the celebration in Brunel's vast Underground Chamber below with a ceilidh. We will have two roaring communal firepits Roof Garden and Ground Floor Terrace and you can order marshmallows/s'mores to toast on these.
Wassail gets its name from the Old English term "waes hael" meaning "be well". The Saxon response is "drink hael" meaning "drink and be healthy". What more could you want from a crisp winter's evening than to gather round the fire when nights are at their shortest? Join us for the magic!
This candle-lit rooftop oasis is situated at the Brunel Museum above Brunel's historic Thames Tunnel just steps from the river.
The alcohol is carefully sourced using local brews and spirits where possible e.g. Bermondsey's Jensen gin, Hiver Honey Beer and Anspach and Hobday. All the proceeds from our Roof Garden tickets goes directly as a charitable donation to the Brunel Museum.
They are the best kept secret in Rotherhithe and you can expect enjoy a unique, rustic atmosphere with a delicious drinks menu, firepits, hot rum and whicky toddies and marshmallows.
