Scottsdale Fashion Square Partners with American Red Cross to Host Community Blood Drive, Sept. 5

With more people returning to the Valley and seasonal activities ramping up, the need for a stable community blood supply is essential. In addition, September is Sickle Cell Awareness Month, and these warriors rely on blood transfusions. Volunteer donors are the primary source of blood for these and other critical needs, such as accidents, surgery, illness or disease. To help alleviate the need for blood in these critical moments, Scottsdale Fashion Square is teaming up with the American Red Cross to host a Community Blood Drive from on Thursday, Sept. 5, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. A Bloodmobile will be located in the shopping center's south parking lot, across from the Capital One Café.

Donors who give blood during the Scottsdale Fashion Square event will receive an exclusive American Red Cross raglan T-shirt, while supplies last.

Appointments are strongly encouraged, but walk-in appointments may also be available. Donors with all blood types are welcome, especially those with types O negative, A negative and B negative who can give a Power Red donation, which collects a concentrated dose of red blood cells. These donors must meet specific eligibility requirements. The drive will also accept regular blood donations, during which approximately a pint of whole blood is given; these appointments usually take about an hour.

After donating, participants can relax in the recovery area, then reward their good deed with a visit to a favorite retailer or restaurant (or both).

"Partnering with area agencies such as the American Red Cross allows Scottsdale Fashion Square to help answer critical needs within the community ," said Melanie Sutton, Senior Marketing Manager of the shopping center. "Blood donations help save lives, and hosting a blood drive provides shoppers, retailers and our neighbors a convenient way to participate."
