Scottsdale Fashion Square Partners with American Red Cross to Host Community Blood Drive

Someone in the United States needs blood every two seconds, whether due to an accident, surgery, illness or disease. That means blood products must be constantly replenished, and doing so is only possible thanks to volunteer blood donors. In honor of Red Cross Month, Scottsdale Fashion Square will host a Community Blood Drive with the American Red Cross on Tuesday, March 19 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the former Mitchell Gold Bob Williams store.

According to the Red Cross, donors with all blood types are needed, especially those with types O negative, A negative and B negative.

Appointments are required and the Red Cross is accepting traditional Blood and Power Red donations during the drive. During a Blood donation, the most common type, approximately a pint of "whole blood" is given; it usually takes about an hour. A Power Red donation collects the red cells but returns most of the plasma and platelets to the donor. These donors must meet specific eligibility requirements and have type A Neg, B Neg or O blood.

After donating, participants can relax in the recovery area, then reward their good deeds with a visit to a favorite retailer or restaurant (or both). In addition, the Cactus Collective exhibition remains on display at the shopping center through April 1. The exhibition, another of Scottsdale Fashion Square’s community programs, features 10 life-size saguaro cactus sculptures that will be donated for a live auction benefiting Scottsdale Arts.

The blood drive will take place in the space formerly occupied by Mitchell Gold Bob Williams, located on the ground floor in the east wing, with access from the parking lot at Camelback and Scottsdale Roads.
