Scottsdale Fashion Square Partners with American Red Cross for Community Blood Drive

Someone in the United States needs blood every two seconds, whether due to an accident, surgery, illness or disease. That means blood products must be constantly replenished, and doing so is only possible thanks to volunteer blood donors. Just a few days prior to World Blood Donor Day, which is recognized each year mid-June, Scottsdale Fashion Square will host a Community Blood Drive with the American Red Cross on Monday, June 10 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Bloodmobile in the parking lot across from Capital One Cafe at Scottsdale Fashion Square.

According to the Red Cross, donors with all blood types are needed, especially those with types O negative, A negative and B negative.

Appointments are required and the Red Cross is accepting traditional Blood and Power Red donations during the drive. During a Blood donation, the most common type, approximately a pint of "whole blood" is given; it usually takes about an hour. A Power Red donation collects the red cells but returns most of the plasma and platelets to the donor. These donors must meet specific eligibility requirements and have type A Neg, B Neg or O blood.
