San Francisco Boys Chorus Spring Concert - Heavenly Voices - Saturday May 18 - Calvary Presbyterian
Saturday, May 18, 2024, 1400 - 1600
Come and hear the San Francisco Boys Chorus, a Bay Area treasure. For over 75 years it has given boys the opportunity to express themselves and create beautiful art.
At this concert, you will hear the boys' radiant voices performing excerpts of the French composer Maurice Durufle's greatest work, his exquisitely beautiful Requiem, alongside some thrilling songs accompanied on the magnificent Aeolian-Skinner organ by Bay Area star organist Robert Huw Morgan. As a special tribute to Gordon Getty, the boys will sing Mr Getty's gorgeous choruses from his recent opera, Goodbye, Mr. Chips. American composer Gordon Getty has made a lifetime of contributions to the world of classical music. In recognition of his extraordinary legacy, he was awarded the prestigious European Culture Prize in 2019 and inducted into Opera America's Opera Hall of Fame in 2022.
The youthful singers of the choristers capture the hopefulness and inspiration of young performers, making Boys Chorus concerts especially appealing to families. Featuring over 150+ voices of all ages, this is an annual not-to-be-missed event in the beautiful Calvary Presbyterian Church. There are many good restaurants in the neighborhood around Calvary Presbyterian. Concertgoers often like to dine before or after the performance. Try "Flavors of the Fillmore", which can help you plan for San Francisco's Fillmore/Pacific Heights Corridor.
The concert will feature all the levels of the Chorus and the handbell ringers. Their songs feature folk songs from around the world and from many cultures.
