Rowden Mill Station 'Open Afternoon' Monday 2nd September 1:30-5pm in aid of Bredenbury Village Hall
Monday, September 2, 2024, 1330 - 1700
Please come and join us for an OPEN AFTERNOON at Rowden Mill Station
An opportunity not to be missed!
This is the first public opening of the station for several years so do drop in to view the station (with its two platforms, ground frame, shunting signals, and weighbridge) along with its railway stock: an Inspection Saloon (now turned into accommodation), a GWR brakevan (in process of renovation) plus all the historical railway detail that will certainly take you on a trip back in time.
This is also an opportunity to view the unveiling of the blue plaque commemorating the National Railway Heritage Award.
Last December at the 2023 NRHA ceremony, Rowden Mill Station received the award within the category sponsored by National Highways: 'Sustainable Re-use of a a Building or Structure No Longer Owned by the Railway Industry'. The other entries in that category represented Edinburgh (the 'Engine Yard' residential redevelopment in a former tram depot) and Central Manchester (with the National Trust's reimagining of the Castlefield Viaduct). Amongst the different industry awards possible, being recognised by a national long-standing institution like the NRHA is a great honour for us.
We are very proud of this distinction for North Herefordshire, and something we would be delighted to share with our community.
Cecilia and Paul are happy to welcome you all as guests on Monday, 2nd of September (1:30-5pm).
Apart from being lucky to be looking after such a historical station, as an accommodation provider for the last 7 years, we have also been working along business partners in Bromyard in helping us bring visitors into our lovely part of Herefordshire.
We are very grateful for all the support so please do come and join us to celebrate together!
The cost of the visit is £6 to include a Cream Tea. All the proceeds will go towards the restorations of Bredenbury Village Hall.
We are delighted to be pairing up with our local hall committee and to support this worthwhile cause. Please pay by cash on the day.
Parking will be available by kind permission from our neighbours. Sorry no dogs, guide dogs accepted.
We look forward to seeing you in early September.
