Romsey Literature Day
Saturday, May 10, 2025, 1000 - 1630
The event is supported by Romsey Future, Test Valley Borough Council and Hampshire Federation of WIs.
The intention is for the day not to be just for women but for all members of the local and wider community and for all generations
It is a great opportunity to hear from nationally known authors about the issues that inspired them to write.
Speakers who have kindly accepted an invitation to be part of our day are:Dr Kim Simpson , Deputy Director at Chawton House with it's unique collection of works by early women writers will be sharing stories of "Sisters of the Pen: Women writers we should know but don't", particularly those writing in Regency times. She describes herself as "Joyously poking about in 18th century literature"
Dr Jonathon Healey, associate professor in social history at Kellogg College will be talking about his recent publication "The Blazing World" …the impact of the civil war on todays society and the story behind the books title
Laura Bates, activist, writer ,and journalist will be sharing experiences influencing her work on "Everyday Sexism" and talking about her recent venture into the fantasy genre. These books offer alternative pathways for todays young women.
Local author Louise Morrish will be hosting the day and talking about her journey as an author. She writes books inspired by the lives of women in the past, who achieved extraordinary things but whom history has forgotten
