Organ Concert at Hebron Lutheran Church
Sunday, February 9, 2025, 1430 - 1600
Don't miss this opportunity to listen to the beautiful sound of Hebron's 200+ yr old organ in its charming historic setting!
A bit of history...
Built in 1740, Hebron Lutheran Church is the oldest Lutheran church in America that has been in continuous use as a Lutheran church, and one of only four remaining wooden churches from colonial Virginia.
The organ, crafted by David Tannenberg, was installed at Hebron in 1802. Purchased for £200 and transported over 300 miles by ox cart from Lititz, Pennsylvania, the organ remains in use today with minimal modifications.
About the Performance
The organist, Daniel Grotz, will be playing a survey of the great works of organ music focusing especially on the Lutheran Chorale and the rich tradition of the organ in Germany. Composers featured on the program include Bach, Walther, Brahms, Frescobaldi, and even Martin Luther. Daniel will be joined by professional vocalist, Heather Hightower, who will introduce and sing portions of each piece a capella.
