ONSKEDROM recent figurative paintings by Anna Halldin-Maule
Saturday, July 13, 2024, 1600 - 1800
Anna Halldin-Maule, the acclaimed Swedish, hyper-realist painter exhibits at Scott Richards Contemporary Art in San Francisco. OnskedrOm, her second solo exhibition with the gallery, will be on view from July 11 through August 10, 2024, opening with a reception for the artist on Saturday, July 13, from 4-6 pm.
OnskedrOm, translated to "wishful dreaming" in Swedish, is a collection of recent works completed in the last four years. Brimming with youthful exuberance and hope, the paintings emphasize the transformative power of change and signify the artist's own journey to self-discovery with a nod to her Scandinavian roots.
Halldin-Maule's mastery is evident throughout each tableau as she infuses her flawless oil-on-linen compositions with the luminosity and enchantment reminiscent of masterpieces by Ingres, Vermeer, and Van Eyck. Taking months to complete, each work has photorealist beginnings germinated through a bespoke scenario that is carefully staged by Anna and photographed by her husband, the photographer Tom Maule.
Whether cleverly depicting the metamorphosis of a caterpillar into a resplendent butterfly or contemplating the change of winter into spring, her recent compositions explore the beauty of transformation. From to the trompe-l'oeil effect of the embroidered butterflies in Borrowed Wings and the opulent details of OnskedrOm to the clean-faced beauty of Rosa Vallmo, and the sumptuous, hyper-realistic rendering of fur in Vinterljus, each meticulously realized painting captivates and transports its viewer into a realm where wishes and dreams intertwine seamlessly with the tangible world. Yet, beneath the surface allure lies the artist's introspection of her own psyche. Reflecting upon concepts of longing and aspiration, the pursuit of perfection, and the manifestation of one's true purpose in life, Anna Halldin-Maule incites us to embark on our own existential quest.
"Through my art, I invite you to reflect on your own journeys of growth and transformation. I hope to inspire you to welcome change with courage, resilience, and an open heart."
Anna Halldin-Maule was born in Gothenburg, Sweden. While she formally trained at the Dômens Art Institute in Gothenburg, her artistic efforts were primarily fostered by her grandfather, the celebrated painter Bror Halldin. Exclusively represented by Scott Richards Contemporary Art, her works have been exhibited throughout the US and Europe and are a part of many important private and public collections, including the Seavest Collection in the United States, the Ibex Masters Collection of Realist Art in Germany, and the Balboni Collection in Italy, to name a few.
