My Year in 'Nam: A Soldier's Story
Sunday, March 24, 2024, 1400 - 1515
As the 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War approaches, there's likely to be a great deal of reflection and commentary about the U.S. role in the conflict. In contrast, former U.S. Marine Robert Kukiel, of Seymour, will offer a detailed description of what it was like to be in the middle of combat. For just over a year, he served as a radio operator for a mortar company that was involved in - among other things - defending an airbase attacked during the Tet Offensive in early 1968. Kukiel's presentation will be accompanied by a slideshow featuring photos taken during his tour of duty. He promises audience members that the photos are family friendly and not bloody or violent. The program is free for Seymour Historical Society members and $5 for other guests.
