Mint Cannabis teams up with ImpactLife on a Community Blood Drive - Saturday, Dec. 7 in St. Peters
Saturday, December 7, 2024, 1000 - 1400
The holidays are always so full of wonder – from the twinkling lights and happy music to the above-average kindness to our fellow humans. As we count down to the most magical time of year, a local dispensary has identified a way to give back to others in need.
Mint Cannabis is teaming up with ImpactLife to bring some holiday cheer with a Community Blood Drive on Saturday, December 7, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at its St. Peters, Mo. dispensary (150 Mid Rivers Mall Circle, St. Peters, MO 63376).
All donors will receive a voucher to redeem for a choice of a $20 gift card voucher, 1,000 points to use in the ImpactLife Donor Rewards Store, or an equivalent donation to area food banks. Donors age 21+ will also receive a FREE T-shirt and uninfused hot chocolate from Mint Cannabis.
While walk-ins will be accepted, individuals who make an appointment in advance to donate blood at this event will be prioritized. To make an appointment to donate blood, call 1-800-747-5401 and request the Mint dispensary’s St. Peters, Mo. location. You can also sign up online here: https://login.bloodcenter.org/donor/schedules/drive_schedule/136303
Impact Life will have a mobile blood donor bus set up in the parking lot of the dispensary. During the blood donation, approximately one pint of “whole blood” is given. The entire process usually takes about one hour – this includes the complimentary mini-physical, an average 10-minute blood donation, and a visit to the refreshment area to replenish with snacks and fluids.
Consider being a blood donor because:
1) More blood donors are needed during the holidays. Blood needs throughout the Midwest continue to rise — often outpacing donations. Hitting daily blood donor thresholds can be a challenge, especially in the winter months, which are full of school breaks, holiday travel, seasonal illnesses, and poor weather conditions. Hospitals often request more blood products during the holidays. Less than 10% of the population gives blood, so donors that give on a regular basis are important to meet these needs.
2) Someone in the United States needs blood every two seconds, whether it’s due to an accident, surgery, illness, or disease.
3) Blood has a short shelf life, requiring a constant supply of donations. Red blood cells must be used within 42 days, and platelets must be used in five. That means blood products must be constantly replenished, and doing so is only possible thanks to blood donors. According to ImpactLife, 600 blood donors are needed daily to replenish blood supplies.
4) There is a critically low supply of O- and O+ blood right now. According to ImpactLife, donors with all blood types are needed, especially from people with types O negative and O positive.
5) Donating blood saves lives. “We are always looking for ways to help the community,” said Eivan Shahara, CEO of Mint Cannabis. “This blood drive provides an opportunity for all of us to do our part by donating blood to save lives.”
