Mint Cannabis Teams up with ImpactLife for a Community Blood Drive Aug. 24 in St. Peters

Someone in the United States needs blood every two seconds, whether it's due to an accident, surgery, illness, or disease.

Blood has a short shelf life, requiring a constant supply of donations. Red blood cells must be used within 42 days, and platelets must be used in five. That means blood products must be constantly replenished, and doing so is only possible thanks to blood donors. According to ImpactLife, 600 blood donors are needed daily to replenish blood supplies.

More blood donors are needed during the summer months. Blood needs throughout the Midwest continue to rise - often outpacing donations. Hitting daily blood donor thresholds can be a challenge, especially in the summer months. Less than 10% of the population gives blood, so donors that give on a regular basis are important to meet these needs.

There is a critically low supply of O- and O+ blood right now. According to ImpactLife, donors with all blood types are needed, especially from people with types O negative and O positive.

Donating blood saves lives. "We are always looking for ways to help the community," said Eivan Shahara, CEO of Mint Cannabis. "This blood drive provides an opportunity for all of us to do our part by donating blood to save lives."

Mint Cannabis is teaming up with ImpactLife to hold a Community Blood Drive on Saturday, Aug. 24, from 10 am to 2 pm, at its St. Peters dispensary (150 Mid Rivers Mall Circle).

Everyone who comes to give blood at the Mint Cannabis blood drive will receive either at $20 gift card voucher, 1,000 points to redeem in the ImpactLife Donor Rewards Store, or an equivalent donation to Make-A-Wish Missouri. Donors age 21+ will also receive a T-shirt from Mint Cannabis.

While walk-ins will be accepted, individuals who make an appointment in advance to donate blood at this event will be prioritized. ImpactLife will have a mobile blood donor bus set up in the parking lot of the dispensary. During the blood donation, approximately one pint of "whole blood" is given. The entire process usually takes about one hour - this includes the complimentary mini-physical, an average 10-minute blood donation, and a visit to the refreshment area to replenish with snacks and fluids.
