Live Concert: Ize Trio presents The Global Suites
Saturday, October 26, 2024, 1900 - 2100
Improvise. Humanize. Harmonize. Empathize…
These are the principles at the core of the Ize Trio (pronounced EYES), a new Boston-based collective that explores the junctures of jazz and Middle Eastern musical traditions in service of a socially conscious mission. San Diego native pianist Chase Morrin, Cyprus-born percussionist George Lernis and Palestinian cellist Naseem Alatrash met under the auspices of the Berklee Global Jazz Institute, the masters program founded by visionary pianist and educator Danilo Pérez. The three quickly discovered that they shared not only a profound musical chemistry, but also a desire to use their artistry to advocate for the issues that they care passionately about – issues surrounding inclusivity, immigration, environmentalism and education.
Ize Trio was awarded the Berklee recording grant in order to record two full-length albums, to be released in 2024 and 2025. Additionally, they are recipients of the prestigious Jazz Road Creative Residencies Grant, in which they received funds to tour and work on new repertoire in Southern California. They have performed worldwide at places like the Panama Jazz Festival and United Nations (NY), and are also dedicated educators at Berklee College of Music and elsewhere.
“Performing live, they are exciting, playing complex compositions in various arrangements before letting it all go in torrents of improvisation.” - Michael Ullman, The Arts Fuse
“This is music that fascinates, that breaks down boundaries and forges links between people and cultures.” - Tor Hammerø
This special live performance will feature music from their new album.
