Latkes and Heirloom Applesauce Cooking Demo with Stephanie Klassen | Holidays Along the Farm Trails
Saturday, December 14, 2024, 1130 - 1230
Join us for a mini latke party, featuring the one and only Stephanie Rosenbaum Klassen! Learn how to make her Bay Area-famous latkes - fried in olive oil, of course - and paired with a simple and delicious homemade heirloom applesauce.
"Ever since I moved to the Bay Area twenty-two years ago, I've thrown an annual Hanukkah latke party... Anyone once invited assumes lifelong latke-party privileges. Some of my friends only know each other through this annual event, but come December, they'll greet each other like old pals." Come join us in the Farm Shop for our warm hospitality and a little taste inspiration for this delicious annual tradition.
Stephanie Rosenbaum Klassen is a longtime local food writer, cookbook author, educator, and cook. Her books include A Little Taste of San Francisco (Bluestreak Books); The Art of Vintage Cocktails (Egg and Dart Press); Kids in the Kitchen: Fun Food (Williams Sonoma); and Honey from Flower to Table (Chronicle Books). She has studied organic farming at UC Santa Cruz and holds a certificate in Ecological Horticulture from the UCSC Center for Agroecology. Her food writing has been nominated twice for a James Beard Journalism Award, and her work has been published in the San Francisco Chronicle, The New York Times, Time Out New York, San Francisco Magazine, KQED, Kinfolk, Edible East Bay, and Edible Brooklyn, among others. She has taught cooking classes, led food tours around the Bay Area, and presented seasonal cooking demonstrations at farmers’ markets across the country. She has been part of Gold Ridge Organic Farms since 2023, hosting olive oil tastings, leading orchards tours, and educating guests about the history, science, and culinary uses of the farm’s apples, pears, citrus, and olives.
