Korean-Themed Music with Composers' Commentary
Sunday, February 4, 2024, 1400 - 1600
The 20th anniversary concert serves as a tribute to Sejong Cultural Society's achievements, highlighting the contributions of composers, past competition participants, their teachers and families, and, more importantly, our dedicated supporters.
The concert repertoire comprises Korean-themed music that has been used as required pieces in the Sejong Music Competition in the past. The Sejong Music Competition aims to discover and support talented young musicians, fostering their musical studies while introducing traditional Korean music using Western instruments. This initiative seeks to raise awareness and understanding of Korea's cultural heritage among the younger generation in the United States, promoting cross-cultural understanding, and bridging the gap between cultures. The annual piano and violin competitions, are open to pre-college students residing in the U.S., regardless of their ethnic background.
The event will feature keynore speaker David Ludwig, a distinguished composer and the Dean of the Music Program at The Juilliard School in New York and Chair of the Sejong Music Composition Competition. Performers include past winners of the Sejong Music Competition, with special guest appearances by Kyung Sun Lee, professor of the violin program at Indiana University, and Sojung Hong, a piano professor at Judson University.
