Tetuzi Akiyama - Guitar

Toshimaru Nakamura - No-input Mixing Board

Meeting in Tokyo in 1995, Tetuzi Akiyama, Michael Hartman, and Toshimaru Nakamura have shared the stage in various configurations and ad hoc groups across Tokyo and Chicago over the past 29 years. This upcoming 8-date Midwest tour marks their debut outing as a trio. Their last reunion, in Tokyo during the summer of 2023, delivered a high-energy performance, improvisation perhaps more influenced by rock and noise music than jazz. Each artist brings a rich history of collaborations within the experimental music community, promising a tour that will delight fans of improvised music.

David Miller + Marty Belcher + Richard Jermain trio
It will be a night of trios, with this one fully in the spirit of improvised Deep Listening. For decades David Miller organized Jazz Fables at Bear's Place, a weekly series featuring adventurous jazz players from around the world. Lately he's brought his pocket trumpet to sit in with local improvisers Ortet, a group organized in part by saxophonist Marty Belcher. Marty has been a steady contributor to Bloomington's underground and improvised scene, playing in groups like Unstable Ensemble and (d)(b)(h). While Marty and David have been playing together for several years, guitarist/electronic manipulator Richard Jermain is a relative newcomer. He records and performs as The City Underground and on March 23 earlier this year brought his synth-driven guitars and cymbal feedback loops to Sounds From the Black Hole.
