Funhouse Comedy Club - Edinburgh Festival Preview All-Dayer in Derby July 2024
Sunday, July 21, 2024, 1400 - 2230
Funhouse Comedy brings an outstanding day of comedy to the beer garden stage at Bar One, Derby on Sunday July 21st with its Edinburgh Festival Preview All-Dayer.
2.00pm – Patrick Monahan – The Talkinator.
It's the year 2024. A lot of talk about AI taking over humans. Only one man can out-talk the chat-bots and robots. One hour of stand-up comedy written by a human, performed by a human... Fringe-favourite Patrick Monahan is back! 'I defy anyone who was there not to leave with a smile on their face. You just have to have a good time' **** (One4Review.co.uk). 'A definite must see!' **** (Edinburgh Festivals Magazine). 'Hilarious without being outrageous' ***** (ThreeWeeks).
3.25pm – Nina Gilligan – Goldfish.
Join multi award-winner Nina Gilligan for her hilarious hour of stand-up, Goldfish. Memory loss, health anxiety, goldfish-related trauma. Things you need to remember and the thing you can't forget. As heard on BBC Radio 4 and voted Best Club Comedian (Chortle.co.uk), Nina is described as a 'bolshier Mrs Merton' (Skinny) and known as 'a vivacious, life embracing performer, with a cheeky, ready wit' (Scotsman).
4.50pm – Philip Simon – Shall I Compere Thee in a Funny Way?
His crowdwork videos have consistently gone viral all over social media (@PhilipsComedy) so join this award-winning MC and comedian for a hilarious mix of brand-new jokes and witty audience chat. As well as regular appearances on TV and radio, Philip performs comedy all over the world. He won the 2023 Pegasus Comedy Best Compere award, came 2nd in the UK Pun Championships 2020, has written material for Mock the Week and NewsJack, and his brilliant one-liners and off-the-cuff quips are sure to keep you entertained throughout.
6.15pm – Friz Frizzle
Friz Frizzle is going to ruin your favourite songs. Armed with a piano, they'll take the tunes you know and love and mess around with them until you don't want to know or love them anymore. It's better than it sounds. "A master of musical comedy" - Comedy Central. Winner of the Leicester Comedy Festival Award 2020.
7.30pm – Mary Bourke - Three Irish Headliners
Writer and comedian Mary Bourke with her friendly banter and deadpan sarcasm, will be joined by guests up in Edinburgh to present an hour of hilarious Irish comedy from the best of the comedy circuit. She is one of the finest comics that Ireland has to offer. 'A masterclass in comedy' (Scotsman).
8.45pm – Scott Bennett – Blood Sugar Baby
One family, one condition, one hell of a hairy baby. Scott Bennett (Live at the Apollo, News Quiz) tells the amazing true story of how his daughter fell ill with a rare genetic condition. Yes, it's a show about an ill baby, but it's a really funny one, with a happy and hopeful ending. Soulmates are taken from the idyllic world of NCT classes and plunged into months of treatment, sleepless nights, genetics, bizarre side effects, private jets and celebrity encounters. As heard on the Parenting Hell podcast. 'Comedy's best kept secret' (Evening Standard).
