Extreme Adventure Challenge
Saturday, May 18, 2024, 0900 - 1600
What is the Extreme Adventure Challenge?
It's our annual fundraiser! A timed two-hour challenge spanning three to five miles, in which teams of four compete to complete as many challenges and collect as many points as possible in the allotted time limit. The checkpoints will highlight some of the fun and empowering adventure programming LAC provides to our community partners.
How much does it cost to participate?
A team of 4 individuals costs $400.
How many teams are participating?
There will be two heats with each heat consisting of 25 teams of four people. The first heat will begin at 9am and end at 11am. The second heat will begin at 2pm and end at 4pm.
Where and when will the race take place?
The race will take place on Saturday May 18th, 2024. We will host the race on our expansive property in Versailles, Kentucky (570 Milner Road, Versailles, KY 40383)
What should I expect when I arrive on race day?
Before you arrive, teams will be emailed safety briefings. Each of our checkpoints will be carefully facilitated by our program staff and volunteers. Although this is a timed challenge, participant safety will remain our highest priority. There will be a certified lifeguard for the canoe challenge, a NASP certified archery instructor at the archery range, and an ACCT level 2 certified facilitator overseeing the rock wall climb and zipline elements.
Upon arriving you will be directed to where to park, then proceed to the pavilion to collect your team race packet which will include a map of the property and all checkpoints. Your team will be able to strategize a path to accrue the most points within the two-hour timeframe.
How do the checkpoints work? Does everyone on the team participate?
There will be 18 checkpoints spread across our property. Each team will receive a point for arriving at a checkpoint and additional points for completing the checkpoint challenge. Some challenges will require the entire team to participate, while others will only require one or two. The checkpoint requirements will be explained by the facilitator at each checkpoint. Points accrued will be recorded on a punch card that the team will submit at the end of the race. Be sure to follow our social media to receive helpful hints and a few sneak peeks of our challenges.
How do time tracking and point totals work for this race?
The time tracking for this race will be kept at the Brown Family Pavilion where the race will begin and end. When your team arrives and submits their punch card, the time will be noted, and their team's points totaled. Teams arriving at least ten minutes before the time expires will receive an additional point bonus. Teams arriving after time has expired will have a point deducted per minute up to ten minutes. Any team arriving beyond ten minutes after the time expiration will be disqualified. The entire team must be present for the time to be noted and the punch card submitted.
What should I wear on race day? Do I need to bring any gear?
Clothes you would wear to run a typical 5K will be sufficient for race day. Be sure to wear shoes you don't mind getting dirty or wet. We will have two water stations along the course, if you suspect you will require hydration beyond what is required you are welcome to carry your own. All items needed to participate at a checkpoint such as bikes, canoes, ropes, fire building items etc. will be provided. Safety gear such as helmets, harnesses, personal floatation devices, etc. will be demonstrated for proper use and provided at each checkpoint and collected before you move on to the next checkpoint.
I've heard the mountain biking trails at Life Adventure Center are technical. Is that the course we will be using for this race?
Our Knucklehead/Mountain Biking Trails will not be utilized for the mountain biking challenge during the race. Instead, teams will choose one team member to ride what we'd describe as an "elevation challenging" part of our property.
