Dr. Nick Bellantoni: Historic Ruins in Connecticut
Sunday, September 29, 2024, 1400 - 1515
Connecticut's landscape is known for its natural beauty, but it also contains fascinating ruins of old Revolution War camps, Native American settlements, abandoned mansions and more. These historic sites - including some in the Naugatuck Valley - will be the focus of a program hosted by the Seymour Historical Society. The program will be led by Dr. Nicholas Bellantoni, the former Connecticut state archaeologist whose folksy storytelling style breathes life into historic locations and events. He recently co-authored a book called "Hiking Ruins of Southern New England," which offers ideas for easy walks in Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Even if you're not the outdoors type, you'll enjoy Dr. Bellantoni's stories about vintage railroad bridges, 19th-century amusement parks, former religious communities, and abandoned lime kilns..
