DGC BC Spotlight: BC Directors Conference in New Westminster on 29 November 2024
Friday, November 29, 2024 -- Saturday, November 30, 2024, 1800 - 2300
The DGC BC Spotlight: BC Directors Conference is a two day event that supports and celebrates BC and Canadian directors, fosters local talent, and encourages networking within the entertainment business. It's also a great opportunity for anyone who loves TV and film and wants to hear behind-the-scenes stories about some of their favourite shows coming out of BC's entertainment industry.

The conference kicks off on Friday, November 29th with a special 30th anniversary screening of Double Happiness. After the screening, Director Mina Shum and cinematographer Greg Middleton (Game of Thrones) will discuss the film's enduring legacy and take questions from the audience.

On Saturday, fans of Global TV's show Murder in a Small Town will be treated to a panel featuring executive producer and showrunner Ian Weir, lead actor Kristin Kreuk and producers Tina Pehme and Kim Roberts, moderated by show writer and The Order showrunner Dennis Heaton. The BC-shot series is filmed in Gibsons and is based on the popular Karl Alberg detective series by author L. R. Wright.

The Saturday agenda also includes discussions regarding the thriving TV movie genre, a panel with documentary directors and a multi-hyphenate Prime Time TV panel with actor/director/producer Helen Shaver and writer/producer/director Stephanie Morgenstern.

The conference ends with the popular DGC BC Greenlight Live Pitch event, where emerging and established directors vie for the opportunity to win a $30,000 cash prize to bring their visions to life.

This year also features the inaugural DGC BC Spotlight Awards, designed to honour exceptional talent in the areas of writing, directing, producing and acting. This year's recipients include Producer and President of Lark Productions, Erin Haskett (Allegiance, Family Law), winner of the Trailblazer award and Tug Phipps, Sunbelt Rentals, Film + TV, recipient of the Industry Builder award.
