Classical Blast's Dark Side of the Yule in Oak Park
Sunday, December 1, 2024, 1600 - 1800
Classical Blast, a regional touring rock band from the Chicago area, explores a darker side of Christmas in their popular holiday concert series, "Dark Side of the Yule," which melds Christmas and Classic Rock music. Featuring music by bands like Pink Floyd, Metallica, Simon and Garfunkle and more, all melded with holiday pop, Christmas carols and classical, the concert explores the darker themes with their music, such as Scrooge, The Grinch, King Herod and more. No worries, everyone sees the light by the end. This may be the most unusual holiday music ever!
The band returns to small theaters and venues across the Midwest this holiday season, including a kick-off concert in their home base of Oak Park on Sun, Dec. 1 at 4pm (doors open 3:30pm, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 611 Randolph St, Oak Park. Tickets are $25 advance, $30 at the door, $10 teens. Kids under 13 free. Order tickets at: https://www.classicalblast.com/shows
The concert features music from the band's 2 holiday albums, "Dark Side of the Yule," and their newly released album titled "Whiter Shade of Winter." Both albums are on the Seattle-based Toucan Cove-Universal label. The new album takes it's name from the famed song by Procol Harum, "Whiter Shade of Pale," which the band melds with "Where Are You, Christmas?" from the Grinch movie. Additional tracks include Amy Grant's "Breath of Heaven" (Mary's Song) mixed with "Bring Me to Life," by Evanescence; the traditional "In the Bleak Midwinter" mashed with Phil Collins' 80's rocker, "In the Air Tonight;" and "Amazing Grace," sung to the tune of "House of the Rising Sun" and melded with 1960s garage rock favorite, "G-L-O-R-I-A." There's lots more, often incongruous but always meaningful, joyful, fun and unexpected.
