Brampton Plough Day and Country Fayre
Sunday, September 1, 2024, 1000 - 1700
Join us for a traditional day of country themed fun at the Brampton Plough Day and Country Fayre! Taking place on Sunday 1st September.
This year's event marks 33 years of raising funds for local charities, and promises a fantastic line-up of activities for the whole family ensuring a memorable day out in the heart of the Suffolk countryside.
Benefitting charities from this year's event are YANA Rural Mental Health Support, Hearing Dogs for Deaf People and St Margaret's Church Tower Restoration, Sotterley.
The event features a range of attractions including our annual ploughing competition, highlighting traditional farming skills. Watch or why not take part? If you would like to show your ploughing skills and compete in this competition go to our website bramptonploughday.co.uk for information of how to enter. The judges typically are looking for several key factors when judging the competition ploughing.
* Precision and accuracy: Judges assess the ploughing technique to determine how well the participant maintains straight furrows and consistent depth throughout.
*Uniformity and alignment: Judges will be looking at the overall uniformity and alignment of the furrow. They look for straight lines, equal spacing between furrows and consistent depth. *Depth and width: Judges consider the depth and width of the furrows and the consistency of the furrow. *Turn and end skills: Judges observe the smoothness and precision of the turns, ensuring that the ploughing is seamless.
Families can enjoy our Fun Dog Show. Our Fun Dog Show is open to all, whether you have got a pedigree Poodle or a cheeky Chorkie (Chihuahua X Yorkshire Terrier) there is a class for you. There will be rosettes and prizes to be won up to 5th place in each class, with the best dogs going forward to the ultimate accolade of Best in Show.
Cheer your dogs on in our scurry as they race over straw bales to retrieve a dummy and take it back to their owner. For adults and children we have our fun musical sit competition - how fast can your dog sit on command? Rosettes for 1st to 3rd place.
In the dog themed area of the show there is lots of dog shopping, with homemade treats, toys and accessories. In addition, charities such as Suffolk Lowland Search and Rescue Team and Hearing Dogs for Disabled People will be there with some of their amazing well trained dogs to tell you about their work. In the arena are the Lowestoft Dog Agility Display Team.
Visitors can also explore a wide variety of stalls offering local crafts, local artwork, unique goods, delicious food, a licenced bar and entertainment for the children. Sit for a while and enjoy Sea Shanty Songs from the Lowestoft Longshoremen, Country Music from Paul Gill and others.
Experience the awe-inspiring sight of a thrashing machine in full operation! The Ransomes Thrashing Drum is run by a 1948 John Deere Model A Tractor. You can witness the power and efficiency of a thrashing machine in action. Our working display will transport you to an era when agriculture relied on mechanical ingenuity.
See the beauty and strength of a heavy horse in harness and discover the vital role that heavy horses once played on the farm. From ploughing fields to hauling heavy loads, these magnificent creatures were once the backbone of agriculture.
Don't miss the display of lovingly restored classic cars, vintage bikes and impressive steam engines. Their owners will enjoy telling you about their transformation, history, design, and the craftsmanship of their time.
Tickets are £10 on the day (children under 14 are free), but there is a discount for buying in advance.
The advance price is £8 for each adult and child aged 14 or over, or you can buy a family ticket for two adults and two children (14 or over) for £30. Go to our website at https://bramptonploughday.co.uk/
