Black History: Songs and Stories

Explore some of the most evocative songs about the Black experience in an evening of stories and inspired performances of classics such as Billie Holiday's God Bless the Child, Louis Armstrong's What a Wonderful World, Marvin Gaye's What's Going On? and Oscar Peterson's Hymn to Freedom. Music at St. Andrew's marks Black History Month on Friday, February 23 at 7:30 p.m with Black History: Songs and Stories. The 90-minute concert will feature headliners Shelley Hamilton, John Campbell and Mark Cassius (The Nylons). The veteran singers/actors/musical theatre stars will share their life experiences and delve into how these classic songs influenced their own musical journeys. Backing the singers will be the Jordan Klapman Quartet with Collin Barrett, bass; Neil Brathwaite, saxophone; John Collin, drums and Jordan Klapman, piano .Tickets are $30.
