Bel Canto Benefit Concerts for CANV, May 3rd and May 5th at St. John's Lutheran, Napa
Friday, May 3, 2024, 1930 - 2045
These concerts are performed with special significance in a continuing effort to raise awareness and support worthy charitable causes for the Napa Valley community. CANV, established in 1965, has an exemplary record of aiding our community, providing shelter, food, healthcare, and support for those who need it most.
Inspired by the tireless efforts of groups like CANV, the repertoire will highlight the theme of community action, and spotlight Bel Canto's signature rich a cappella sound in Henry Purcell's If Music be the Food of Love, Maurice Durufle's Ubi Caritas, Jean Berger's the Eyes of All, Elaine Hagenberg's Alleluia, Coleman Peterson's Breathe, and Moses Hogan's Hold On!
In addition, the concert will feature outstanding Bay Area instrumentalists in Eric Whitacre's Five Hebrew Love Songs accompanied by string quartet as well as Song for Justice, a thrilling movement from Kim Andre Arnesen's extended work Tuvayhun - Beatitudes for a Wounded World.
The overarching theme of the concert may be summed up in the title of Kyle Pederson's moving composition, Can We Sing the Darkness to Light?
There will be two performances: Friday, May 3 at 7:30 pm, and Sunday, May 5 at 2:30 pm, both at St. John's Lutheran Church, 3521 Linda Vista Avenue, Napa. Tickets may be purchased online at www.belcantonv.org.
