BBC NOW In Concert: Let All The World In Every Corner Sing
Friday, March 22, 2024, 1930 - 2130
Celebrate Easter and the 40th anniversary of the BBC National Chorus of Wales with a triumphant concert at 7:30PM on Friday 22 March at BBC Hoddinott Hall (Level 2, Wales Millennium Centre).
Joining the Chorus will be the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and the internationally-renowned Conductor, Harry Bicket.
Brazilian composer Jose MaurĂcio Nunes Garcia kicks off the evening with his Zemira Overture, and the compelling baritone Julien Van Mellaerts performs Bach's Ich habe genug. Julien will be known to Welsh music lovers as he represented New Zealand in BBC Cardiff Singer of the Year 2019.
It is perhaps little know that Haydn's Symphony No. 26 was in fact written for Easter, although when we look deeper into the music there are plentiful less-than-subtle hints.
Also written for Easter is Vaughan Williams' Five Mystical Songs, which sets four texts from 'The Temple: Sacred Poems' by Welsh poet and priest George Herbert. Intrinsically spiritual and direct in delivery, the five movements contrast from quiet and meditative to triumphant shouts of praise.

Jose MaurĂcio Nunes Garcia - Zemira Overture
Johann Sebastian Bach - Cantata No 82, 'Ich habe genug'
Joseph Haydn - Symphony no. 26 in D minor, Hob. I:26 "Lamentatione"
