Acclaimed Violinist Arturo Delmoni in Free Recital at historic The First Baptist Church in America
Sunday, November 5, 2023, 1400 - 1530
The First Baptist Church in America is delighted to present acclaimed violinist Arturo Delmoni with pianist Stephen Martorella performing Beethoven's "Spring" and "Kreutzer" sonatas, plus the Vitali Chaconne in G Minor for violin and organ on the Foley-Baker organ as an added bonus. The concert is at 2:00 PM on Sunday November 5 in the historic Meetinghouse located at 75 North Main Street, Providence, Rhode Island, at the foot of College Hill across from the RISD bus tunnel, and is free and open to the public. The First Baptist Church in America is a National Register of Historic Places landmark that was built between 1774 and 1775.
Violinist Arturo Delmoni is one of the most celebrated artists of his generation. Formerly a student of Jascha Heifetz's, his remarkably distinctive playing embodies the romantic warmth that was the special province of the great virtuosi of the Golden Age of violin playing. Yo-Yo Ma describes Delmoni as "an enormously gifted musician and an impeccable violinist. His playing style is unique, and his gorgeous sound is reminiscent of that of great violinists from a bygone era.". Glenn Dicterow, long time Concertmaster of the NY Philharmonic, says, "Delmoni's playing always goes right to the heart, and his charisma is irresistible."
Pianist Stephen Martorella began his studies at The Juilliard School in New York. He later attended Mannes College of Music; Queens College at the City University of New York; and the Hartt College of Music at the University of Hartford. His piano teachers included Josef Raieff, Nadia Reisenberg, Artur Balsam, and Murray Perahia. He enjoys an international reputation as both soloist and conductor; and is currently Minister of Music at the First Baptist Church in America, Providence, Rhode Island; organist for Temple Shalom in Middletown, Rhode Island; and on the faculty at Rhode Island College. The Providence Journal-Bulletin has written that Stephen Martorella is "a performer of the most refined musical tastes and abilities."
The recital will last approximately one hour and will proceed without an intermission. The Auditorium is handicap accessible.
