2nd Annual Winter Showdown Race Week - Feb 7-10 Auburndale Speedway - Winter Haven, FL
Wednesday, February 7, 2024 -- Saturday, February 10, 2024, 1400 - 2200
Over 100 cars and drivers from across the US and Canada comprising eight different racing divisions will descend on the 2nd Annual Winter Showdown at Auburndale Speedway for Florida Speedweeks action beginning this Tuesday, February 6, brought to you by Professional MotorSports Solutions.
Daily racing continues at the ΒΌ-mile oval through Saturday, February 10.
The Mighty TQ Midgets will be a headline division, with over 20 open-wheel, open-cockpit cars expected to compete. The cars, which compete outdoors and indoors year-round across the Northeast, will make their first appearance at Auburndale and are sure to provide thrilling two and three-wide action when they hit the track on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
Racers from both the US and Canada give this class an international flair.
Modifieds will also be a part of the showdown this year, as the 602 Tour Modifieds will race at Auburndale before moving over to New Smyrna, with a point fund being put together that encompasses the races at both tracks. A strong field of cars is expected in this popular division, which could also exceed 20. They will run twin 30-lap features on Thursday and one on Friday.
The Tour-type modifieds are also on the schedule.
The National Compact Tour presented by RevX will race at Freedom Factory in Braselton, Florida before making their way to Auburndale to race on Thursday and Friday, so teams from across the country will have plenty of Sunshine State racing action for their travel dollars. Entries in this division could go north of 30 by the time the first racing green flag is thrown at the Showdown.
Some of the drivers from this division may opt to compete on Saturday with the track's local Mini Stock division as well.
Returning for the second straight year are the Bandoleros and the Legend Cars. Both of these divisions will be running two full programs on Wednesday and Thursday and will also be on the card for Friday and Saturday.
The Crown Vic division is one of Florida's most loved divisions, and they will join Auburndale's Mini Stocks and Pure Stocks along with the Mighty TQ Midgets for an entertaining show on Saturday night to cap off what promises to be a fun-filled week of action at Auburndale.
Event promoter Brad Hockaday, owner of Professional MotorSports Solutions, said he wanted to bring something for everyone to this year's show. "We have a veritable short-track racing buffet for fans this year," he said with a smile. "We've got open-wheel, open cockpit, small cars, big cars, Americans, Canadians, and drivers of all ages and the racing should be close and competitive all week long. We wanted to treat spectators to some divisions that they wouldn't normally see, and the TQ Midgets are an example of that. The 602 Modifieds are another, and we have joined forces with New Smyrna and Aqua Duck Water Transport to provide a point fund for the 602's that includes both tracks' races."
Those on hand at Auburndale will be able to download the free TrackTune App from their device's app store, allowing them to listen to the announcers through their phone or tablet. The service will only be available to those at the track. Track Tune and their sister company, Auditory Defense, will be set up in the track's vendor area throughout the week to provide support for their service.
"We are excited to have so many new divisions and drivers from across the US and Canada racing this year," Hockaday said. We will have five different food trucks on hand for fans and teams to choose from all week with a variety of different food and drink choices as well."
