2024 PPP3CA Lake Shawnee 5k Run/Walk

Please join the PPP3CA Hope Foundation's 1st annual 5k Run/Walk/Advocacy Event! This event will be held at Lake Shawnee in Topeka, Kansas on September 29th, 2024 at 9AM. Participants will meet in the Adventure Cove Parking Lot. This event will be held in honor of Claire Pittz, a child from the Topeka community living with PPP3CA-related neurodevelopmental disease and epilepsy. This event also honors the 40 other children diagnosed with this ultra-rare disease worldwide. The PPP3CA Hope Foundation is a parent-led non-profit organization who promote and fund research projects to learn the impacts of genetic mutations in PPP3CA and discover potential treatments.

The PPP3CA gene is typically responsible for the production of a protein called calcineurin, which plays an important role in brain cell communication. Mutations interfering with proper neuronal transmission can lead to neurodevelopmental disorders and epilepsy. Because the PPP3CA gene is important for many parts of the body, some people may have kidney and urinary issues, poor feeding, low muscle tone, intellectual disability, autistic features, seizures, brain matter changes, difficulty speaking, unsteady walking, sleep disturbances, vision loss, and bone defects.
